THW Freising volunteers honored for decades of service

Five long‑standing members of the Technical Aid (THW) Freising branch received the association’s honour medal in a ceremony on 24 July 2026. Landrätin Susanne Hoyer presented the awards on behalf of the Bavarian Interior Minister to Matthias Höcht (25 years), Matthias Schmitt (25 years), Thomas Ihlenfeldt (40 years), Michael Wüst (40 years) and Josef Nowak (50 years). The ceremony, attended by local mayors and the deputy THW‑area representative, highlighted the volunteers’ contributions to regional disaster response, including the COVID‑19 pandemic, refugee influxes, the 2024 Pentecost flood, the 2019 Simbach snow disaster, the 2021 Ahr valley floods and a 2023 operation in Slovenia. Hoyer praised the THW’s reliability and its cooperation with volunteer fire brigades, noting that the strong volunteer force improves the county’s safety and peace of mind.
