Thy Catafalque releases new single ahead of thirteenth album
Thy Catafalque, the Hungarian avant-garde metal project led by Tamás Kátai, has released the new single and music video ‘Búcsú a piros madártól’ (A Farewell to the Red Bird). The track serves as the opening for the project’s upcoming thirteenth album, titled ‘XIII: Sárga erdő’ (Yellow Forest), which is scheduled for release on November 20 via Season of Mist.
This upcoming album marks a significant shift for the project, as it is the first Thy Catafalque record to feature a live drummer rather than programmed rhythms. The twelve-track album involves thirty-four musicians and a twenty-voice male choir, incorporating various folk and classical instruments such as the kamancheh, sitar, zither, piano, and brass.
Kátai personally filmed the music video in the woods near Makó, Hungary. The video combines live footage from previous performances in Brazil, France, and Hungary with hand-made and digital animation. Kátai noted that he intentionally kept the video’s imperfections to maintain a ‘human vibe’ in an era of AI-generated art.
