Tibetan protesters hold hunger strike in Shimla

Approximately 50 members of the Tibetan community, including men, women, and elderly individuals, conducted a 24-hour hunger strike and peace protest at Chaura Maidan in Shimla, India. Organized by the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, the demonstration aimed to draw international attention to the Tibetan cause.

The protesters identified two primary objectives: opposing China’s recently introduced Ethnic Unity and Progress Law, which they claim threatens Tibetan language, religion, and culture, and commemorating Lobsang Rangzen. Rangzen self-immolated outside the United Nations headquarters in New York on July 2 in protest against Chinese government policies.
