Tibor Fehér arrested and several Hungarian infrastructure investigations launched

Tibor Fehér, known by his stage name Beat and formerly of the group Fekete Vonat, has been arrested and taken to a correctional facility. The arrest follows a warrant issued by the Budapest Metropolitan Court after Fehér failed to pay a 225,000 HUF fine imposed for disorderly conduct. The court subsequently converted the fine into a 150-day prison sentence. Fehér had previously attempted to surrender at a police station, documenting his attempt via social media, but was eventually apprehended by police and transferred to a detention center.

Separately, several criminal investigations have been launched regarding major infrastructure and state-owned enterprise management in Hungary. The National Investigation Bureau is investigating allegations of breach of trust involving MÁV Passenger Transport Zrt., which reportedly waived over 4 billion HUF in debts owed by various municipalities following instructions from former minister János Lázár.

Additionally, the Ministry of Transport and Investment has filed criminal charges regarding the M6 motorway concession. The ministry alleges that a previous contract was awarded to a company linked to Lőrinc Mészáros and László Szíjj at a cost over 100 billion HUF higher than alternative bids. Furthermore, police are investigating potential breach of trust concerning the M1 motorway expansion, specifically regarding allegations that construction materials were invoiced at prices up to twice the market rate in agreements between Dolomit Kft. and V-Híd.
