Tierra del Fuego develops quality seal for local egg production
Producers in Tierra del Fuego are working to develop a quality seal for local egg production to standardize industry criteria and provide greater consumer guarantees. The initiative, which has been in development for over two years, involves the creation of a protocol to regulate various stages of poultry activity, ranging from bird conditions to the management of organic waste.
A pilot program will be conducted at a production facility in Río Grande to test the process. The project is a collaborative effort involving the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the provincial Secretariat of Agriculture. Beyond standardization, the seal is viewed as a step toward achieving regional food sovereignty.
The local poultry sector continues to face logistical challenges, including the need to transport laying hens from Buenos Aires and Pergamino via air, and difficulties in moving birds from Río Gallegos due to the necessity of crossing Chilean territory or lacking adequate air connections.
