Tierra del Fuego hosts biodiversity forum to conclude AcBio project

The Cooperation Forum ‘Scaling Action for Biodiversity’ was held in Ushuaia to mark the conclusion of the AcBio project. Implemented by ICLEI Argentina and the Asociación Bahía Encerrada with co-financing from the European Union, the three-year initiative focused on protecting forests and wetlands in Ushuaia, Río Grande, and Tolhuin.

During the forum, Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto addressed the European Union Ambassador, Erik Høeg, expressing concerns regarding the potential environmental impact of the Sea Lion hydrocarbon project in the North Basin of the Falkland Islands. Vuoto emphasized the importance of using scientific data and cooperation between local governments, scientific teams, and civil society to build effective environmental public policies.

Provincial legislator María Laura Colazo also participated, highlighting the collaborative efforts between municipalities, the scientific sector, and the provincial government. The AcBio project aimed to strengthen urban natural reserves and develop environmental management tools to support sustainable city planning and biodiversity protection across Tierra del Fuego.
