Tierra del Fuego biodiversity conservation efforts

Overview

The AcBio project, a three-year initiative focused on protecting forests and wetlands in Ushuaia, Río Grande, and Tolhuin, concluded with the ‘Scaling Action for Biodiversity’ Cooperation Forum in Ushuaia. Implemented by ICLEI Argentina and the Asociación Bahía Encerrada with European Union co-financing, the project aimed to strengthen urban natural reserves and develop environmental management tools for sustainable city planning.

During the forum, Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto raised concerns regarding the potential environmental impact of the Sea Lion hydrocarbon project in the North Basin of the Falkland Islands. He advocated for the use of scientific data and cooperation between local governments, scientific teams, and civil society to establish effective environmental public policies.
