Tierra del Fuego industrial decline sparks warnings of social instability

Moises Solorza, the former Secretary of Industry for Tierra del Fuego, has warned that ongoing layoffs in the province are causing significant social instability and weakening the local social fabric. He described the situation as a “systematic attack” on the Patagonia region by the administration of Javier Milei.

Solorza noted that the combination of continuous layoffs and the opening of imports has led to the near disappearance of the local textile and electronics industries. He criticized business groups, suggesting that corporate responsibility is being prioritized toward foreign interests rather than maintaining local employment chains.

Furthermore, Solorza linked the industrial decline in Tierra del Fuego to broader geopolitical disputes over strategic resources, specifically oil exploration in the region. He cautioned that the current economic model risks compromising Argentine sovereignty and national heritage.
