Tierra del Fuego industry faces production changes and regulatory shifts

The Special Customs Area Commission (CAAE) recently met to address critical issues facing the industrial sector in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. A major outcome of the meeting was the approval of a proposal to incorporate a new module into the television manufacturing process, a measure valid for up to 15 months.

Discussions also focused on the production of air conditioning units. ATHUEL Electrónica S.A. announced it expects to begin manufacturing air conditioners by mid-September, having completed 70% of its planned plant investments. The company will temporarily utilize facilities from Aires del Sur S.A.

However, concerns remain regarding industrial stability. Javier Escobar, Secretary General of ASIMRA, criticized the provincial government for its perceived absence and warned that changes to production processes, such as allowing pre-assembled modules, could lead to job losses. Additionally, the CAAE reviewed the situation of Sueño Fueguino, resolving to revoke the firm's ability to export under the industrial sub-regime following the cancellation of a precautionary measure.
