Tierra del Fuego launches digital fire risk platform
The government of Tierra del Fuego has introduced a new digital platform to help residents and tourists monitor wildfire risks and weather conditions. Developed by the Ministry of Production and Environment and the Provincial Fire Management Directorate, the tool provides daily danger indices, wind and temperature data, and a list of authorized locations for using fire.
The platform covers the cities of Ushuaia, Tolhuin, and Río Grande. It serves as a preventative measure to reduce forest fires during peak outdoor activity seasons. Users are advised that if the danger index reaches the red level, lighting fires is strictly prohibited, even in locations that are typically authorized.
Authorities emphasize that the presence of existing fire pits does not grant automatic permission; users must verify that a site is on the official list and that current daily conditions allow for fire use. The information is accessible via the official provincial government website.
