Tierra del Fuego proposes new stamp tax on credit card statements

In Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, the provincial executive branch has proposed a tax reform that includes a 1.2% stamp tax on credit card statements. Under the proposal to amend Provincial Law No. 440, issuing entities would apply this tax to the amounts sent to cardholders.

The broader tax modification also includes new rates for various transactions: a 25% tax on the sale of new and used vehicles, a 20% tax on real estate transfers, and a 15% tax on commercial or industrial property rentals. Residential rentals for permanent family use would remain exempt at 0%. The proposal requires the Fueguina Collection Agency to return 4.20% of the increased revenue to the Treasury's Single Account. The measure comes amid declining consumption and rising household debt in the region and must still be analyzed and approved by the Legislature.
