TİGEM begins triticale harvest in Ulaş to supply national seed needs

The Ulaş Agricultural Enterprise, operating under the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TİGEM), has begun harvesting triticale across 14,796 decares of land. The harvest is expected to last approximately 15 days using five combines.

Due to a regular rainfall pattern this season, officials anticipate a yield increase of 50% to 60% compared to the previous year, with a total expected yield of approximately 6,000 tons. This production is strategically significant as it provides roughly 50% of Turkey's triticale seed requirements.

Plant Production Chief Kemal Sercan Helvacıoğlu noted that the enterprise produces certified seeds for triticale and sainfoin to meet farmers' needs, while also producing vetch and alfalfa for livestock forage. Following the harvest, the triticale undergoes sieving and treatment at seed preparation facilities before being distributed to farmers through authorized dealers.
