Tigray administration criticizes African Union mediation efforts

The Tigray administration has criticized African Union High Representative Olusegun Obasanjo, accusing him of failing to show a clear commitment to mediating between the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian Federal Government.

In a statement issued on September 6, the administration claimed Obasanjo’s recent visit to Tigray failed to produce concrete peace initiatives or specific issues for meaningful negotiation. The administration also questioned the neutrality and impartiality of the mediation process and criticized the international community for a lack of coordinated engagement, arguing that the implementation of the Pretoria Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) has been largely left to the Federal Government.

Despite these criticisms, the Tigray administration stated it remains committed to a time-bound dialogue with the Federal Government to achieve lasting peace.
