Tijuana athletes flagged for 2026 National Popular Games
Approximately 100 young athletes from Tijuana have been officially flagged to represent the municipality in the state stage of the 2026 National Popular Games (Juegos Nacionales Populares). The ceremony was led by Mayor Abdiel Gutiérrez Coronado in coordination with the Municipal Institute of Sports of Tijuana (IMDET).
The delegation consists of 15 boxers, 60 football (6x6) players, and 25 martial arts competitors. These athletes will compete in the state stage on September 5 at the Tijuana High Performance Center. Successful participants will advance to the national stage, scheduled to take place in Veracruz from November 4 to 13.
The games, promoted by the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), aim to encourage sports practice, promote social inclusion, and foster coexistence among youth.
