Extreme heat impacts Tijuana, Juárez, and Austin

Extreme heat is impacting several regions across Mexico and the United States. In Tijuana, temperatures are forecasted to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius this week. The Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Tijuana (CESPT) has issued recommendations for conscious water use to prevent waste and manage pressure issues in high-altitude neighborhoods as demand rises.

The heat has also caused health concerns for workers; the Cámara Mexicana de la Industria de la Construcción (CMIC) reported at least 12 construction workers in Tijuana suffered from dehydration and heatstroke during August. Companies have implemented preventive measures such as providing hydration and shade.

In Juárez, authorities have issued alerts as temperatures are expected to hit 41 degrees Celsius, warning of risks to vulnerable populations and the potential for fires in dry vegetation. Meanwhile, in Austin, Texas, temperatures are forecasted to reach 41 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit).

In the broader Baja California region, the National Meteorological Service anticipates heavy rains and thunderstorms due to the Mexican monsoon, though temperatures in Mexicali and San Felipe may exceed 45 degrees Celsius.
