Tijuana implements environmental initiatives including beach cleaning and reforestation
Tijuana has launched several environmental programs aimed at sustainability and community engagement. On October 24, approximately 150 volunteers, including students, business leaders, and representatives from companies such as Caterpillar and Eaton Electrical, participated in a regional beach cleaning event at Playas de Tijuana. The initiative, organized by United Way Mexico and Kilómetro Uno, focused on collecting microplastics to protect local marine fauna in commemoration of the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development 2026.
Additionally, the Tijuana City Council has introduced the “Raíces del Cambio” (Roots of Change) project. This program focuses on reforestation, the creation of urban gardens, and the recycling of organic materials. Initial activities included planting fruit trees and shrubs, as well as utilizing mulch derived from recycled Christmas trees to improve soil conservation. The project also includes educational workshops on urban gardening and recycling, with planned expansions to support social reintegration communities.
