Tijuana targets industrial growth through infrastructure and water projects

Tijuana is focusing on infrastructure and urban planning to maintain competitiveness and attract industrial investment amid shifting global supply chains. During the AMPI Realty Summit, leaders from the Tijuana Economic and Industrial Development (DEITAC) emphasized that strategic energy and water infrastructure are vital for economic certainty. Key water projects, such as desalination plants, are being highlighted to ensure long-term availability.

Economic officials report that expansion plans from established companies reflect a regional economic recovery. Tijuana currently hosts 595 exporting companies, ranking first in Mexico for establishments and second for direct employment. Local authorities are supporting these efforts through programs like Fondos Tijuana to provide certainty for new and expanding operations.

To support regional growth and sanitation, the Tijuana State Public Services Commission (CESPT) is rehabilitating wastewater pumping plants PB1-A and PB1-B. This project, supported by NADBank and the US EPA, aims to modernize systems that are over 60 years old. The work is part of international agreements under the International Boundary and Water Commission (CILA) to improve cross-border sanitation and is expected to benefit over one million residents by 2027.
