TikTok settles three US lawsuits over teen addiction claims

TikTok reached confidential settlements to resolve three lawsuits filed in the United States that alleged the platform deliberately encouraged addictive use among minors, contributing to anxiety, depression, eating disorders and other mental‑health problems. The financial terms were not disclosed, and the agreements were reached months before the cases were set to go to trial. These three cases were selected as pilot lawsuits within a broader wave of roughly 3,300 consolidated claims against major social‑media companies in California.

Other platforms, including Meta Platforms, YouTube (Google) and Snap Inc., continue to face litigation, with trials expected in the coming months. In parallel, four families filed a new suit in the Delaware federal court, accusing social‑media apps of playing a role in the suicides of their teenage children and demanding changes such as limiting infinite scroll, tightening algorithmic recommendations and reducing exposure to harmful content.
