Romania law enforcement issues widespread fines for waste and traffic violations
Law enforcement agencies across Romania have conducted various operations targeting environmental violations, traffic infractions, and illegal timber transport.
In Timișoara, local police issued 45 sanctions totaling nearly 500,000 lei between July and September for illegal waste disposal. This included a single individual fined twice, with each instance costing 45,000 lei, for abandoning household and recyclable waste in public spaces.
In Pitești, local police issued over 700 sanctions in September, amounting to nearly 200,000 lei. The majority of these penalties targeted traffic violations, such as illegal parking and failure to respect road signs, while other fines addressed illegal waste dumping and environmental protection breaches.
Other notable enforcement actions include: - The National Environmental Guard in Bistrița-Năsăud issued over 50,000 lei in fines for illegal construction waste and animal waste disposal in Dorolea. - Gendarmes in Dâmbovița intercepted timber transports with suspicious documentation and discrepancies in wood volume, resulting in 6,000 lei in fines and a potential investigation into computer crimes. - In Răucești, a driver is under investigation for attempted bribery after offering 100 euros to police officers during a check for undocumented timber transport.
