Waste abandonment enforcement in Timișoara

Overview

Between July and September, the Timișoara Local Police Environmental Protection Service issued 45 sanctions against individuals and legal entities for environmental violations and illegal waste abandonment. The total value of these fines reached 496,500 lei.

Most penalties were issued under local regulation HCL 383/2023 for discarding household waste and objects in public spaces such as streets, parks, and vacant lots. Other sanctions were applied under national emergency ordinances for activities including burning waste, failing to hand over waste to authorized operators, and non-compliance with environmental regulatory measures.

In one specific instance, an individual was fined a total of 90,000 lei after using two separate vehicles to abandon bags of household and recyclable waste at a street intersection on two different nights. Authorities noted that sanctioned parties are also required to implement cleanup measures and ensure waste is handled by authorized operators.
