Romanian A3 Highway Segment Planned for July Opening Amid Delays

The Association Pro Infrastructură has urged the National Company of Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) and contractor UMB to open the A3 highway segment between Poarta Sălajului and Zimbor by the end of July. The appeal notes that only minor works remain on a support wall and the Românași junction, while the Nădășelu‑Zimbor stretch still requires completion. It points out that Turkish firm Ozaltin can finish the required diversions at Topa Mică and Nădășelu by December, three months ahead of schedule, which would allow drivers to travel the 42.3 km between Poarta Sălajului and Nădășelu and continue on the A3 to Târgu Mureș (over 155 km). The contracts for the Nădășelu‑Zimbor and ZimborPoarta Sălajului sections were signed in December 2020 and July 2020, with original deadlines of December 2023 (or August 2024 accounting for technical disputes). Delays have been attributed to landslides, contractor performance issues, and administrative hold‑ups.
