Timișoara earmarks millions for school renovation and fire‑safety upgrades

The Timișoara municipality has approved a 4.3 million‑lei contribution from its local budget to transform the former "Școala Mici" on Jókai Mór Street into a modern, extended‑hours kindergarten. The total investment exceeds 11.6 million lei, with the balance co‑financed through the EU Regional West Programme 2021‑2027. The project includes complete building rehabilitation, interior re‑partitioning, upgraded electrical, thermal and sanitary installations, energy‑efficiency measures, new furniture and equipment, and exterior playground facilities, with works expected to last 24 months.

In a related initiative, the city has allocated 1.48 million lei for technical expertise to obtain fire‑safety authorizations (ISU) for all its school facilities. The procurement will be conducted in three lots covering pre‑school, lower secondary and upper secondary education, using a single‑operator framework contract and subsequent sub‑contracts, also planned over a 24‑month period.
