Timișoara launches major road upgrades to ease traffic

The city of Timișoara has begun a new phase of the Western Bypass project, signing a 13‑month contract to expropriate private land along a 988‑metre stretch. The investment, estimated at nearly 30 million lei, will create a dual‑lane boulevard linking Gării Street with the future western ring, including bike lanes, sidewalks, utility upgrades and an over‑railway passage.

Separately, the Timiș County Council approved the construction of two modern roundabouts on the Timișoara‑Giroc road. Funded with 6.78 million lei, the works will add pedestrian crossings, upgraded sidewalks and bike paths, drainage improvements, and an access road to nearby housing blocks, with completion targeted for autumn. Both projects aim to improve road safety and traffic flow in the rapidly growing metropolitan area.
