Timișoara political leaders discuss potential mayoral succession

Political discussions are intensifying in Timișoara regarding the potential loss of Mayor Dominic Fritz’s mandate following the application of new integrity laws (ANI Law). PNL leader Ilie Bolojan expressed hope that Fritz will remain in office, noting that a mid-term interruption of his mandate would not benefit the municipality. Bolojan stated that if Fritz is forced to step down, PNL and USR may seek a common candidate agreed upon by Fritz to ensure stability.

In a parallel development, former mayor Nicolae Robu is gauging public interest in a potential return to office. Robu conducted a social media poll exploring various scenarios, including whether PNL and USR should field a joint candidate or run separately. Robu, who has previously lost to Fritz, criticized the current mayor and supported the adoption of the new ANI Law. The political landscape remains uncertain as parties prepare for potential local elections should the mayor's position become vacant.
