Timișoara stadium construction contract officially signed

The construction contract for the new ‘Dan Păltinișanu’ stadium in Timișoara has been officially signed at the headquarters of the National Investment Company (CNI) in Bucharest.

The Timiș County Council plans to provide at least 125 million Lei from its own budget during 2026 and 2027 to facilitate the project. This local funding is intended to bridge the gap until the CNI is expected to take over full financing in 2028.

County Council President Alfred Simonis stated that the contracted company will first spend several months completing the execution planning before physical construction begins. Simonis defended the project against previous critics, noting that the county is a major contributor to the state budget and has previously funded stadiums in other parts of Romania without requiring local co-financing.
