Romanian sports and urban infrastructure development

Major sports and urban infrastructure projects are advancing across several Romanian cities. In Timișoara, the Romanian Government has unblocked the construction of the new 32,000-seat Dan Păltinișanu Stadium. The Timiș County Council will cover initial costs through 2027, with the National Investment Company expected to support remaining costs starting in 2028.

The ‘Costică Rădulescu’ sports base in Timișoara, which includes a football pitch with floodlights, multifunctional courts, and administrative spaces, is nearing completion following previous delays caused by a contractor bankruptcy. The facility is scheduled for official reception in September.

In Craiova, work continues on a €75 million multifunctional sports complex at the former ‘Tineretului’ stadium site. The facility will feature an 8,000-seat arena, an athletics track, and Romania’s first velodrome, alongside spaces for concerts and exhibitions.

Other regional developments include a €6 million urban regeneration project in Geoagiu, which is transforming 48,000 square meters near its stadium into a sports and recreation area for volleyball, badminton, and fitness. Additionally, in Târgoviște, the ‘Voievodul Mircea’ Technological High School is nearing the completion of a renovation project valued at over 50 million lei, funded by the Târgoviște City Hall. This project includes structural consolidation, thermal insulation, solar panels, and the redevelopment of a nearby park.
