Timisoara gas pipe rupture prompts evacuations and traffic halt
On Wednesday, a natural‑gas supply pipe was accidentally ruptured in Timisoara, Romania, while workers were carrying out sewer‑network repairs at the intersection of Bulevardul 1 Decembrie 1918 and Ripensia Street, close to a student dormitory. Emergency crews from the fire service and the gas‑distribution company sealed off the area, shut off the gas flow and began repairs. Several residents of the nearby dormitory were evacuated as a precaution and road traffic on the boulevard was temporarily halted and rerouted. Authorities reported no injuries or casualties. Drivers were advised to use alternative routes until the site is cleared and normal traffic resumes.
