Tinubu Advances Education Reforms to Raise Youth Skills and Jobs in Nigeria
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is promoting a set of education reforms aimed at expanding technical and vocational training across Nigeria. The rector of Federal Polytechnic Orogun, Professor Duke Okoro, praised the reforms, noting the approval of 19 new academic programmes and plans to add a music department to create more employment opportunities. He highlighted changes to the National Youth Service Corps that will give corps members greater chances to acquire practical skills, and stressed that stronger TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) will help young Nigerians become self‑employed and reduce unemployment.
In a separate address marking the 80th anniversary of nationalist Herbert Macaulay’s death, Tinubu called for increased investment in education, describing it as the most meaningful tribute to the country’s founding fathers. He warned that Nigeria’s youthful population—average age 19—poses a major challenge if not properly educated, and linked the reforms to his “Renewed Hope Agenda” for national development.
