Tinubu Calls for End to Raw Mineral Exports Across Africa

President Bola Tinubu addressed the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) in Abuja, urging all African nations to stop exporting raw minerals and to develop local processing, refining and value‑addition capacity. He warned that the continent’s wealth is being exploited when raw ores leave Africa without generating technology, jobs or industrial growth, and called for a unified, bureaucratic‑free approach to research, development and knowledge‑based economies.

Tinubu, acting as Grand Patron of AMSG, highlighted the need for stronger bargaining power, centralised dialogue on the continent and policies that keep the profits of critical minerals within Africa. AMSG chair and Nigeria’s solid minerals minister, Dele Alake, praised the president’s leadership, noting that some member states have already banned raw mineral exports and that the meeting coincided with the Fifth African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS 2026).
