The Tipra Motha Party (TMP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are negotiating a potential electoral understanding ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) village committee elections. TMP MLA Ranjit Debbarma indicated that talks with BJP central leadership are expected to take place in Delhi before the September 8 deadline for nomination papers.

Both parties have signaled readiness to contest the elections independently if an alliance is not reached. The BJP state president, Abhishek Debroy, stated that the decision regarding an alliance would be finalized within one to two days. Meanwhile, TMP has already instructed its MLAs and members of the district council to begin selecting candidates for the 4,599 seats across 587 village committees.

The elections for the village committees are scheduled for September 28, with the counting of votes set for October 5.
