Tirana International Airport leads Balkan region in passenger growth

Tirana International Airport has recorded the highest number of passengers in the Balkan region during the first six months of 2026. According to data released by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, the airport processed approximately 6 million passengers during this period, representing a 17% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2025.

This growth places Tirana ahead of other major regional hubs. Belgrade follows with 4.2 million passengers, while Zagreb recorded 2.2 million. Other regional airports included in the comparison are Pristina with 2.1 million, Skopje with 1.8 million, Split with 1.3 million, and Dubrovnik with 1.2 million.

The increase in passenger volume is attributed to the expansion of air connections and a rising influx of tourists and visitors choosing Albania as a destination.
