Tirana protestors detained for blocking boulevard after demonstration

On 20 June 2026, after a protest that ended around 22:00, nine Albanian citizens remained on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” boulevard in front of the prime‑minister’s office, placing metal chairs and other objects that obstructed traffic. Police repeatedly ordered them to leave, but they refused. The Tirana Police Department subsequently detained the nine individuals in a free‑state investigation for illegal obstruction of vehicle traffic, disturbance of public peace and participation in an unlawful gathering. The detainees, aged 22 to 56, are being referred to the prosecutor’s office for possible charges. Police continue to identify any additional participants involved in the illegal occupation.
