Tire factory project in Oran reaches 45% completion

Construction of a major tire manufacturing plant in the El Hamoul industrial zone of Tafraoui, Oran, has reached a 45% completion rate. This progress raises concerns regarding the project's ability to meet its scheduled completion deadline by the end of 2026.

During a field visit, Oran Wali Brahim Ouchan addressed energy requirements necessary to sustain construction. He instructed Sonelgaz to study and implement a second electrical connection to ensure a stable power supply for the site. Ouchan also called for measures to accelerate the pace of work to meet contractual deadlines.

The project is a partnership between the Algerian firm El Hadj Larbi Industries and the Chinese company Doublestar Tire, representing an investment of approximately 50 billion dinars. Once operational, the plant aims to produce 7 million tires annually, including 1 million for heavy vehicles, with potential future capacity expansion to 22 million units. The facility is expected to create over 2,000 direct jobs and is viewed as a strategic move to bolster national production and mitigate local tire shortages and price fluctuations.
