Tisza Szigetek-supported candidates win in Hungarian by-elections

By-elections were held in four Hungarian municipalities—Makó, Mátészalka, Mezőtúr, and Mohács—to elect new local council representatives. These elections were necessitated because the previous representatives resigned their local mandates after being elected to the national parliament in April.

In Makó, independent candidate Gergő Török, supported by Tisza Szigetek, won with 48.68% of the vote. In Mátészalka, independent candidate Erzsébet Szabóné Dankó secured 60.38% of the vote. Péter Magyar, leader of the Tisza Szigetek group, congratulated the candidates on what he described as a “sweeping victory.”

While candidates supported by Tisza Szigetek saw success in Makó and Mátészalka, the Tisza-aligned candidate lost in Mohács.
