Tivan receives $3 million grant for Speewah fluorite project

Tivan has received an additional $3 million tranche of International Partnerships in Critical Minerals (IPCM) funding for the Speewah Fluorite Project in Western Australia. The funds, provided by the Australian Federal Government, have been received by Japan Australia Fluorite Associates, the joint venture vehicle owning the project.

The capital is intended to advance the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS), which is currently underway and expected to be completed by late 2026. This funding brings the total IPCM grant received to date to $6.4 million. The Speewah Project is being developed through a joint venture involving Sumitomo Corporation, the Japan Organisation for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC), and ETFS Capital.

Located in the Kimberley region, the project aims to establish Australia’s first commercial fluorite mine to produce acid-grade fluorspar for use in semiconductors, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing. Recent technical milestones include a mini-pilot plant program that produced acid-grade fluorspar exceeding the 97 per cent benchmark specification.
