Tlaxcala government officials address political tensions

Government officials in Tlaxcala, Mexico, have addressed recent political friction within the state. Antonio Martínez Velásquez, the state government's social communication coordinator, raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of LGBTQ+ representation in the local Congress. He argued that while political parties use inclusive rhetoric and affirmative action to meet quotas, these measures do not always result in authentic participation or concrete legislative progress for the community.

Separately, state officials addressed boos directed at Governor Lorena Cuéllar Cisneros during the Feria Tlaxcala 2026. A government spokesperson attributed the jeering to potential coordinated actions by opposition groups, though no evidence was provided to confirm such organization. The spokesperson noted that while the opposition has the right to manifest, the political impact of these actions would be limited without electoral success. The administration plans to resume municipal tours following the governor's December report to maintain direct contact with citizens.
