Tlaxcala indigenous communities participate in national rights law consultation

Representatives from 70 indigenous communities across 19 municipalities in Tlaxcala are participating in a national consultation to strengthen the General Law on the Rights of Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Peoples. The process, known as the National Prior, Free, and Informed Consultation, aims to incorporate the proposals and experiences of original peoples into the new national legal framework.

The assembly included community authorities from Nahua and Otomi groups. During the event, Governor Lorena Cuéllar Cisneros and Adelfo Regino Montes, Director General of the National Institute of Indigenous Peoples (INPI), emphasized the importance of indigenous voices in the nation's construction.

Additionally, the INPI Coordinating Center was inaugurated at the Palacio de Cultura in Tlaxcala to improve dialogue and coordination with local communities. The Governor reported that her administration has allocated over 800 million pesos over the last five years toward indigenous community needs, including infrastructure, health, education, and the establishment of the Intercultural University of Tlaxcala.
