Tlowitsis Nation reports ongoing vandalism at Nenagwas community

The Tlowitsis Nation has issued a statement condemning ongoing vandalism at its new community, Nenagwas. Recent incidents over a weekend included the destruction of ground lights at a canoe entrance on York Road and the theft of a canoe paddle.

Leadership noted that this is part of a long-standing pattern of property damage. Since the land was cleared in 2018, the Nation has reported over $30,000 in damages to construction equipment to the RCMP. Recent damage involving dirt bikes and motorbikes has also resulted in torn turf and tire marks throughout the property.

Estimated repair costs for the latest incidents are expected to reach tens of thousands of dollars. The Nation expressed that these funds, which may also be needed for security cameras, would be better utilized for building new homes for its members.
