TMO begins 2026 hazelnut purchasing season in Turkey

The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has commenced its 2026/2027 hazelnut purchasing season, utilizing a mandatory appointment system to manage deliveries. TMO has set purchase prices at 255 TL per kilogram for Giresun quality and 250 TL for Levant quality.

There is a notable discrepancy between TMO prices and the free market, where prices in regions like Samsun and Giresun have been reported between 140 TL and 200 TL depending on quality and location. This gap has led to calls from local agricultural chambers and political figures for price updates to protect producers from exploitation by market intermediaries.

TMO General Manager Ahmet Güldal issued a strict warning to producers, stating that hazelnuts from the previous year will not be accepted to prevent the mixing of old and new crops. He confirmed that payments would be processed starting from the 21st day after delivery and that the purchasing mandate would continue until December 31.
