Brazil faces measles outbreaks in São Paulo, Amazonas, and Tocantins
Brazil is experiencing various measles outbreaks across different regions, prompting health authorities to emphasize the importance of vaccination.
In São Paulo, the State Health Secretariat confirmed four new cases, bringing the 2026 total to 36. The capital city accounts for 88% of these infections. Notably, 26 of the 36 cases involved individuals with incomplete or no vaccination history. Health teams are currently conducting epidemiological investigations and applying blockade vaccines to prevent further spread.
In the state of Amazonas, four cases have been confirmed in the border municipality of Tabatinga. All four patients are of Peruvian nationality, including three children and one adult. Health officials from the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation (FVS-RCP) and the Ministry of Health are working in the region to monitor contacts and reinforce vaccination efforts.
Additionally, experts are monitoring the aftermath of a measles outbreak in Tocantins. While a specific transmission chain in Campos Lindos was declared closed in late 2025, specialists warn that low vaccination coverage in certain communities remains a significant risk factor for the reintroduction of the virus.
