Tocantins Public Ministry appoints two new Justice Prosecutors
The Ministério Público do Tocantins (MPTO) sworn in Weruska Rezende Fuso and Edson Azambuja as prosecutors of justice for the state’s second‑instance courts. Their appointments fill the newly created 13th and 14th Justice Prosecutor positions, bringing the college of prosecutors to 14 members.
Weruska Rezende Fuso was promoted on merit after 25 years of service, emphasizing the need for greater female representation and a commitment to social transformation. Edson Azambuja rose to the role by seniority after a 35‑year career, reiterating his dedication to upholding constitutional rights.
The new prosecutors will represent the MPTO before the Tribunal de Justiça do Tocantins (TJTO) and, when cases advance, before the Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) and the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF). Their induction was lauded by Procurador‑Geral Abel Andrade Leal Júnior, who highlighted the expected positive impact on the institution’s credibility and democratic function.
