Todi launches 'Mystica Visio' exhibition for St. Francis 800th anniversary

The town of Todi in Umbria has opened the "Mystica Visio – San Francesco, Jacopone e le arti" exhibition to mark the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’s death. The show, curated by Massimo Mattioli, runs in the medieval Sala delle Pietre until 19 July 2026 and is complemented by the new Parco Sculture Todini on the hills of Collevalenza.

Featuring works by a roster of contemporary artists—including AES+F, Giulia Apice, Bruno Ceccobelli, Miltos Manetas and many others—the project explores the lasting cultural impact of Saint Francis’s vision and his dialogue with the poet Jacopone da Todi. Organisers emphasise a focus on themes such as poverty, fragility, the body and the desire for transcendence, presenting them through modern artistic language rather than traditional religious iconography. The exhibition integrates the historic stone architecture of the venue, allowing the medieval setting to interact with the contemporary pieces.
