Togo adopts product conformity decree as UN reports aid to 1.2 million

On 30 July 2026, Togo’s Council of Ministers met in Lomé under the chairmanship of President of the Council Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. The cabinet approved a decree creating a national mechanism to verify the conformity of locally produced and imported goods before they reach the market, aiming to safeguard consumer health, ensure product quality and promote fair competition. The same session also amended the fee schedule governing electronic communications operators and equipment installers as part of the country’s digital transformation strategy.

The United Nations system in Togo presented its 2025 annual report, noting that more than 1.2 million people—including refugees and internally displaced persons—directly benefited from its programmes. Key achievements cited were the introduction of a malaria vaccine, a 25 % reduction in unvaccinated children, deployment of over 2 000 community health agents, construction of 21 emergency obstetric‑neonatal centres, agricultural support to 50 000 women and youths, and school‑meal assistance for 64 000 children. The UN mobilised US$53.6 million in 2025 and called for additional resources to meet the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
