On 30 July 2026 Togo’s Council of Ministers approved a decree establishing a national mechanism to verify the conformity of locally produced and imported goods before they reach the market, aiming to protect consumer health, ensure product quality and support fair competition. The same session amended fees for electronic communications operators as part of a broader digital‑transformation strategy.

In the same week, President Faure Gnassingbé announced a target to reduce the national poverty rate to below 15 % by 2040, citing progress from 45.5 % in 2019 to 42.4 % in 2023. The Vision Togo 2040 plan calls for expanded private‑sector investment to create jobs, modernise agriculture, and improve health, education and basic services. The United Nations reported that its programmes in Togo had directly benefited more than 1.2 million people, including refugees and internally displaced persons, highlighting ongoing health and social interventions alongside the government’s policy reforms.
