Togo advances socio-economic data collection and HIV prevention

Togo is implementing several major national initiatives focused on socio-economic data collection and public health. From September to December 2026, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies and Demographics (INSEED) will conduct the Third Harmonized Survey on Household Living Conditions (EHCVM-3). This survey aims to gather reliable data on education, health, employment, and housing to help guide public policy and measure the impact of development programs.

In the realm of public health, Togo reported significant progress in HIV prevention and testing during 2025. Awareness campaigns reached over 2.36 million people, with more than 56% of those beneficiaries being youth aged 15-24. HIV testing also increased, with 650,142 people tested, resulting in 10,174 positive cases. While maternal-to-child transmission prevention saw improvements—with therapeutic coverage for pregnant women rising to 90.65%—challenges remain regarding condom distribution and the stigma associated with testing.
