Togo and France announce significant socio-economic and budgetary updates

Togo's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEED) has announced a major national survey on household living conditions, scheduled to take place from September to December 2026. Conducted in partnership with the UEMOA Commission and the World Bank, this initiative is part of the third edition of the Harmonized Survey on Household Living Conditions (EHCVM-3).

The survey aims to update socio-economic data from 2021-2022, which recorded a national monetary poverty rate of 43.8%. It will evaluate household income, expenditures, and access to essential services such as education, health, and employment to analyze poverty trends and regional disparities.

In France, reports from the General Inspectorate of Finance and the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs have proposed reforms for the 2027 budget aimed at reducing family policy expenditures. Proposed measures include replacing the 10% pension increase for parents of three or more children with a flat monthly rate of 125 euros, and reducing income thresholds for family allowances, which could affect approximately 591,000 households.
