Togo biometric ID program reaches 80% distribution milestone

Togo’s national biometric identification program has produced 5.9 million e-ID cards, with approximately 4.72 million already distributed to holders. This represents a distribution rate of nearly 80%.

Despite this progress, approximately 1.18 million cards remain to be delivered to their beneficiaries. Authorities are now focusing on accelerating this final distribution phase to ensure the remaining 20% of the volume reaches the population.

Managed by the Agence Nationale d’Identification (ANID), the system assigns a unique identification number (NIU) to both Togolese citizens and foreign residents. The program aims to modernize identity verification and facilitate access to essential services, including healthcare, education, social security, financial institutions, and pensions.
