Togo launches national campaign against counterfeit medicines in Kpalimé

The Coordination of RFI Clubs Togo has launched the 8th edition of its national awareness campaign against counterfeit medicines in Kpalimé. Under the theme ‘Attention to medicines sold in the street,’ the three-day initiative aims to increase public vigilance regarding the risks of purchasing pharmaceutical products through unauthorized channels.

Local authorities, health professionals, and civil society organizations are participating in the mobilization, which includes awareness sessions, high-level panels, and a football gala to engage younger populations. Koudjo Kodjo, Secretary General of the Kloto prefecture, described counterfeit drugs as ‘silent weapons’ that weaken the healthcare system and disproportionately affect vulnerable populations.

Kossi Afelete Atigaku, Mayor of Kloto 1, noted that while awareness is vital, the fight must also address the accessibility and cost of quality medicines to reduce reliance on parallel markets. The campaign is supported by a coalition including the World Health Organization, the Order of Pharmacists, the Brazzaville Foundation, and approximately fifteen private companies.
