Togo plans 120 MW bifuel thermal power plant in Lomé

The Togolese government is planning the construction of a new 120 MW bifuel thermal power plant at the existing Lomé thermal plant site. The project aims to strengthen electricity production capacity and meet a continuous rise in demand, which is growing at approximately 10% annually.

The facility will utilize dual-fuel engine groups designed to run primarily on natural gas, with the capability to switch to liquid fuel as a backup. This technology is intended to provide operational flexibility and secure electricity production during periods of limited gas availability.

Supported by the World Bank, the project is expected to help reduce the national electricity system's deficit in controllable capacity. The plant will be connected to the 161 kV high-voltage national transmission grid to integrate the produced energy into the system.
