Tokpa Naga Village attacked by armed militants in Manipur
Armed assailants reportedly attacked Tokpa Naga Village in the Champhai area of Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on the night of August 11. According to reports from the Liangmai Naga Council (LNC) and authorities representing nine surrounding Naga villages, a group of armed militants entered the village, opened indiscriminate fire, and set several structures ablaze.
The arson attack allegedly destroyed approximately nine to ten residential houses and a church. Village authorities further claimed that civilians were physically assaulted and had mobile phones seized at gunpoint during the incident.
The LNC expressed deep concern that security personnel were stationed only a few meters away from the sensitive red-zone area during the attack, calling for an inquiry into potential dereliction of duty. Local village bodies have demanded immediate arrests, impartial investigations, and the deployment of central forces to ensure safety. They have also called for prompt relief, rehabilitation, and compensation for the affected families while urging communities to avoid retaliatory violence.
